Not to be confused with the commercial Henna which contains PPD (otherwise known as Black Henna) or the synthetic forms of Henna Dyes. Commercial Henna and Syntheic Henna has been in use in western countries since the 1960’s.

True Henna is Lawsonia Inermis, which is mixed with other Indian Herbs which works with Lawsonia Inermis to stain the hair. Indio powder added to Lawsonia Inermis gives black colouring to the hair WITHOUT the use of PPD. PPD is contained in over 95% of black henna body ink which has irritated, inflamed and seriously damaged skin.

Indigo Indigo is grown from seed and is harvested bi-annually. Indigo plant grows to one to two meters high with small green leaves and purple colour flowers. Indigo is an ancient dye plant known for the clarity and fastness of the blue colour. This is the dye traditionally used to natural hair colours. It can be added at your discretion (approx 2 TBS) to your henna paste to create rich colours. Indigo with Henna is a great replacement for modern chemical dyes if you are having a reaction or eczema caused by chemical colours. Indigo is ESSENTIAL. All Lawsonia Inermis and other hair ingredients have been farmed using chemical free farming methods and are also 100% fair trade.

Directions to apply Herbal Dyes

Surgical gloves need to be up on to save your hands from stains and slowly add hot water to the colour henna powder, to make an applicable paste. For long hair you may need 2 packets for the first time using this product. For short hair, only one packet will be sufficient. For reapplication for short hair only half the pack will be needed and for long hair reapplication only one packet will suffice. Divide the hair in four sections and apply paste on each from root to tip evenly. The henna can be left on the hair from 1 to 3 hours. Rinse off thoroughly. For best results blow dry with a hair dryer for 10-15 minutes or until hair is dry.

Please note that the colour applied darkens your hairs within 48 hours, so the final colour is obtained after 48 hours.

Caution! If you have dyed your hair chemically, you need to wait for 6-8 weeks before you can safely use Lawsonia Inermis.
